The Illiana Watermelon Association has a new Queen.

19-year old Grace Rainey of Evansville won the crown Saturday night at the IWA’s annual convention in French Lick.

Rainey is a freshman Biology major at the University of Southern Indiana and after completing her bachelor degree she plans to pursue her doctorate in veterinary medicine at Purdue University.

Rainey is the first Illiana Watermelon Queen to have the new official title of “Ambassador of Promotions and Marketing.”  The IWA Board members made that change at their annual meeting as part of the convention.

Rainey says she ready to get started with her ambassador duties.

First runner up went to Julie Mackey of Terre Haute, while the Second Runner up title, as well as Miss Jubilee, the convention’s Miss Congeniality award, both went to Nicole Sterling of Vincennes.

Other contestants include Jessica Pfoff of Vincennes and Sabrina Loi of Clinton, Indiana.
