The Vincennes Township Fire Department went before the Knox County Parks Board this week asking for permission to place AED stations in the parks.

Matt Hand told the board that the fire department recently purchased three AED units through donations made to the department.

One was already approved to be placed in the city of Vincennes at Gregg Park near the pickleball courts, and Hand asked the board if they could place the other two in Ouabache Trails and Fox Ridge Nature Park.

The Oubache Trails AED would be placed in the campgrounds near the bathroom and showers, while the Fox Ridge AED will be put near their bathrooms.

An AED or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing cardiac arrest.

The medical device can analyze the heart’s rhythm and deliver an electric shock to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm, according to the American Red Cross.

The parks board voted unanimously in favor of the request.
