
With winter weather creeping in, Governor Mike Braun says the state is ready. Braun joined INDOT, Indiana State Police, and Homeland Security officials to highlight preparations continue to keep Hoosiers safe on the roads this season.
INDOT crews have been training drivers, inspecting equipment, and stocking salt. The Governor says the public also plays a role—planning travel, slowing down, and giving plow crews room to work.
State Police say more than 4,500 winter crashes last year were caused by driving too fast for conditions. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office told us on Monday they worked over a dozen weather related accidents during the snowfall.
This week is Winter Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana and officials are asking drivers to take it slow, buckle up, and keep an emergency kit in the car. Homeland Security urges winterizing vehicles and watching local advisories before heading out.
