The Vincennes Board of Public Works and Safety received an update Monday on overcrowding relief efforts at the Vincennes Animal Shelter.

Director Leah Reagan reported that November numbers “looked a little bit better,” helped by a four-day stretch of waived adoption fees when the shelter became overcrowded.

In November, the shelter took in 30 cats and completed 43 cat adoptions. For dogs, 37 were taken in — including seven from the county — with 15 adopted, 15 returned to their owners, and 14 transferred to rescue organizations.

“Currently, we have a total of 69 animals in the shelter. And if you count all the animals in foster care, we have a total of 81 animals in our care, which is a lot better than we were last month,” Reagan said.

She also noted that free vaccines remain available for city residents with limited incomes.
