Knox County Engineer Matt Holden has put in his resignation.
At Tuesday’s County Commissioner’s meeting Holden explained he is stepping down to return to his former post in Gibson County.
Hired by Knox County in the summer of 2023, Holden says the decision comes after his home county missed out on key funding — including a $1.5 million Community Crossings grant and and opportunity to reapply for that tied to a new state law signed by Governor Mike Braun last week that makes changes to community crossings grant and other road funding.
“I really feel those losses wouldn’t have happened if I’d been there,” Holden said. He says he believes it’s important to return home, where his family lives and where he believes he’s most needed.
Holden committed to finishing current Knox County projects, including nearly completed roadwork funded by a Community Crossings grant.
