Knox County is teaming up with state and federal agencies to make sure emergency buildings are ready in case of an earthquake.
Starting in June, crews will spend about two weeks checking the safety of schools, hospitals, and emergency services buildings. They’ll use an app to look for weak spots and create a report on which places are most at risk.
The goal is to spot problems now—before an earthquake hits—so the county can plan for improvements.
It’s all part of a bigger effort with the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium and FEMA to update Knox County’s disaster plan and help the community recover faster after a major event.
