Washington Police are advising residents to hide valuables in their vehicles, lock their vehicles, and take their keys and fobs with them following a series of incidents reported earlier this week.

On Monday night, officers on third shift conducted foot patrols in response to a report of individuals wearing hoodies in the area of East Walnut and Northeast 11th Street. Officers discovered several vehicles in the neighborhood with driver’s side doors left open. Police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and report any suspicious activity to Central Dispatch at 812-254-1060, or call 911 in an emergency.

In a separate case reported in the early morning hours of Tuesday, a firearm was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1800 block of Grand Avenue. Police believe the theft occurred around 1:15 a.m. on May 6. Investigators are seeking video footage that may show a group of individuals in the area at that time. Anyone with relevant footage is asked to contact Officer Jordan Andry at jordan.andry@washingtonin.us.
