Knox County Commissioners say progress continues on the new Emergency Operations Center planned for Hart Street.

Commission President T.J. Brink said utility coordination is nearly complete, with Duke Energy, MetroNet, and other providers preparing to relocate lines. The goal is to minimize disruption, particularly to nearby KCARC properties.

“All the documents have been signed and everything’s been put into our name,” Brink said, adding that KCARC has been “fabulous to work with.”

The project is now out to bid with a 45-day window instead of the usual 30, due to the need for utility relocation. A bidders’ meeting is scheduled for June 16 at 9 a.m. at the Knox County Jail.

Brink said activity at the site should increase soon, with more visible work expected as bids are received and utilities begin relocation.
