The Knox County Public Library Board of Trustees met Tuesday to review two tentative design plans for a new parklet area behind the Meeting House at 521 North 6th Street, adjacent to the main library’s parking lot.
Library Director Emily Bunyan told First City News that the plans were developed by the Indiana University Rural Engagement design team. Following the meeting, board suggestions were forwarded to the team, with final designs expected the week of July 28. Board feedback is due the following week to allow students to finalize the designs by August 8.
The board also celebrated the success of the 2025 summer reading program, which concludes July 31 with a wrap-up party at the Fortnightly from 5 to 7 p.m. As of now, the program has 789 registered participants and has drawn 793 attendees to its events, surpassing last year’s totals of 643 registrations and 480 attendees.
Looking ahead, the next board meeting will be held August 19 at 4:30 p.m. in the Bloebaum-Fuller Annex at 509 North 7th Street. An executive session is scheduled that day at 3 p.m. to discuss installing a new surveillance system at the main library.
