32-year-old Dylan Smith of Vincennes remains in the Knox County Jail after Tuesday’s  fatal shooting outside a local liquor store.

He’s charged with Murder following the death of 30-year-old Taylor Hendershot.

Vincennes Police report that officers were called to Cardinal Liquors at 2101 North 6th Street around just before 1 p.m.  Tuesday for a reported shooting. They found Hendershot suffering from gunshot wounds and rendered aid until emergency medical services arrived.   She was later pronounced dead by the coroner’s office.

Smith reportedly fled the scene in a black SUV. Police later found a wrecked black Cadillac Escalade about a block away. That discovery led officers to a nearby home at 809 Carbon Street.

Police say a standoff followed after a tenant confirmed Smith was inside and armed with a knife. Officers used less-lethal methods to assist in taking Smith into custody over two hours after the initial call.  Smith was apprehended without further incident.

The investigation was assisted by Indiana State Police, Princeton Police, the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Vincennes University Police, and the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office.
