Vincennes University students in five public safety programs will gather today to honor the first responders who lost their lives in the September 11th terrorist attacks.
An event originally scheduled for yesterday was reset to today.
Students from Conservation Law Enforcement, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Fire Response and Safety Technology, Homeland Security and Public Safety, and Legal Studies will walk 441 laps on the outdoor track. Each lap represents one of the 441 first responders killed on September 11, 2001.
The tribute will begin with a brief memorial reading before participants start the walk. The event takes place at 5 p.m. today at the Vincennes University Outdoor Track on Short Street.
Also today, Lawrenceville High School is hosting a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in the school gym. Lawrence-Allison Assistant Fire Chief Joe Calvert, who also teaches fire science classes at Lawrenceville, said several area fire departments have been invited to participate.
The stair climb starts at 8 a.m. Central, 9 a.m. Eastern and will run throughout the school day.
