The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has declared an Air Quality Action Day for Tuesday, September 16, covering much of Southwest Indiana, including Vincennes.
Ozone levels are expected to reach the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” range, meaning children, the elderly, and people with heart or lung conditions should limit outdoor activities.
The advisory includes Vincennes along with Bedford, Bloomfield, Evansville, Huntingburg, Mount Vernon, Paoli, Princeton, Rockport, Tell City, and surrounding communities. IDEM says unseasonably warm temperatures, sunny skies, and light wildfire smoke will contribute to the elevated ozone levels.
The alert will be in effect from midnight to 11:59 p.m. Tuesday. Hoosiers can check real-time air conditions, learn about precautions, and sign up for alerts at /www.in.gov/idem/airquality/files/smogwatch/
