The Vincennes PBS Family Fun Fest returned to Vincennes University this past Saturday, drawing more than 300 people for a day of games, animals, and hands-on activities.
The event held outside Davis Hall on the VU campus, the home where the Vincennes PBS and Blazer 91.1 WVUB radio studios are located.
Children were quick to point out their favorite part of the day—the petting zoo. Many who attended together, all said the animals were the best part. “Pet the animals,” each of them echoed when asked what they liked most.
Along with the animals, kids spent time winning prizes, stacking cups, and exploring fire trucks and buses. Parents said the variety of activities made the event an easy choice for families.
Volunteers from the Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers basketball team helped run activities throughout the day. Head Coach Nyla Johnson said the experience gave her new players a chance to connect with the community:
“It just means a lot to our team and our organization to volunteer, get involved in a community. I am new here and we brought in 12 new players. So for the community to be able to see our girls and we just get to know each other, that’s really special to me.” she said.
Players said they enjoyed both bonding with teammates and interacting with the children. Others ran a cup-stacking station and noted that the kids especially liked when the stacks toppled over.
Organizers said the strong turnout and clear skies helped make the Family Fun Fest a success, adding to the tradition of family-friendly events in Vincennes.
