The latest U.S. Drought Monitor, released Thursday, shows much of Indiana in dry or drought conditions. Most of the state is categorized as “Abnormally Dry” (yellow) or in “Moderate Drought” (beige).

A section of northeast Indiana is classified in the “Severe Drought” (orange) range, while southeastern Allen County and northern Adams County are experiencing “Extreme Drought” (red).

Locally, Daviess, Martin, Pike, and Dubois Counties are the only areas in Indiana without drought or dryness. Counties to the south, to the east and west, including Knox and Gibson, are listed as “Abnormally Dry,” while Sullivan and Greene Counties fall into the “Moderate Drought” range.

Forecasts call for continued dry and warm conditions through the first week of October. The next chance for rain in Knox County is Monday night through Wednesday, with precipitation odds between 30 and 40 percent.
