The city of Vincennes is celebrating the new benches and trash cans that have been installed at various Vincennes Trolley stops around town. Officials say the decision to place the new additions was due to usage levels at each stop.

Rebecca Pinnick, who oversees the Vincennes Trolley and VanGo transportation systems at the YMCA of Vincennes, told First City News that the decision came after reviewing a year’s worth of data. “We looked at how many boardings we had at each location, then made the determination from that,” Pinnick explained.

The project was funded through a HELP grant. Pinnick noted the trolley currently averages between 70 to 100 boardings each day, though the number varies. She added that the system is always seeking new partnerships and opportunities to expand services for riders and the community.

On Friday, the Vincennes Trolley also used social media to respond to questions about the new benches. Some riders asked why the benches weren’t covered for all-weather use. In the post, officials explained that current grant dollars only covered benches and trash cans, while shelters are a larger project requiring additional planning and funding. However, they added that opportunities for more amenities are already being explored, and thanked the Vincennes YMCA and the City of Vincennes for their support.
