Beau Bayh, a 29-year-old Marine Corps veteran and Harvard-trained lawyer, has announced his candidacy for Indiana Secretary of State as a Democrat.

Bayh is the son of a former governor and the grandson of a U.S. senator, but says he wants to run as a nonpartisan voice. He’s campaigning on a platform of cutting waste and fighting corruption, taking aim at current  Republican Secretary of State Diego Morales for spending on travel and a luxury SUV.

Bayh says Indiana lags behind the nation in voter participation, and he wants to expand early voting and add statewide ballot referenda.

The Democratic nominee for Secretary of State will be chosen at the party’s 2026 convention.

Morales has already announced he’ll seek re-election.  He is challenged in the Republican Primary by Knox County Clerk David Shelton.
