AgroRenew has announced it is suspending plans to build a bioplastics manufacturing plant in Knox County.
The company cited continued delays in equipment deliveries and rising financial challenges tied to out-of-country manufacturing as reasons for the suspension. Despite the setback, founders Brian and Katie Southern say they remain committed to the long-term vision of bringing sustainable materials production to the region.
Plans for the plant were first unveiled in 2023, and a ceremonial groundbreaking was held in June 2024. The project called for a 196,000-square-foot facility on Elkhorn Road in Vincennes to convert agricultural waste into biodegradable plastic.
As part of the suspension, AgroRenew has transferred the Elkhorn Road property back to the Knox County Indiana Economic Development Corporation and committed to repaying grant incentives. The company also says it will repurchase any local investments made in support of the project.
AgroRenew says it continues to work with partners to advance the technology and formulations developed during the early stages of the effort.
