Officials with the Knox County Health Department gave an update on the department to the Knox County Commissioners on Tuesday.

Department Administrator Krystle Russell and Health Officer Dr. Alan Stewart discussed budget adjustments following reductions in Health First Indiana funding and efforts to keep key programs operating. Russell said the department has worked to preserve services while scaling back expenses and remains in a stable position moving into 2026.

Among the initiatives continuing next year are the popular trash and tire collection events, which drew strong community participation. The department plans to hold both a spring and fall collection in 2026.

Dr. Stewart noted that the department’s immunization outreach has expanded to local businesses and community events, providing flu and COVID vaccinations. The department also continues its food voucher program, school-based health efforts, and partnerships with area food pantries.

Both officials expressed appreciation for community partners such as Republic Services, the Knox County Solid Waste Management District, and local street departments for helping make the cleanup programs possible.
