Drone-Located Dog Recovering After Injury

An injured dog rescued near Kohl’s in Vincennes last week now faces surgery after suffering a severe hip injury.

The Vincennes Animal Shelter says the dog — now named Cypress — had been running loose and too frightened to approach anyone following a car accident near Bierhaus Boulevard. After several days of unsuccessful attempts to capture her, shelter staff pooled their own money to hire McCormick’s Thermal Drone Services for assistance.

The drone team located Cypress deep in a thicket of vines and thorns. Staff and volunteers then hiked in, tranquilized her, and carried her to safety before rushing her to Southgate Veterinary Clinic.

Veterinarians say Cypress is emaciated, with several wounds and a significant rear hip injury that will require surgery. If the operation is unsuccessful, she may lose her leg.

The shelter says Cypress has a long road to recovery and is not yet available for adoption. Donations toward her medical care can be made directly to Southgate Veterinary Clinic under the shelter’s medical account.
