Indiana is taking steps to become a national leader in drone technology.

Governor Mike Braun has signed an executive order establishing the Indiana Initiative for Drone Dominance Task Force. The group will develop a statewide plan to strengthen Indiana’s role in the growing drone industry.

The effort aligns with recent federal initiatives aimed at expanding U.S. leadership in drone manufacturing, testing, and airspace security.

The task force will include representatives from state government, universities, and private industry. Priorities include creating an aerial test corridor linking sites such as Camp Atterbury, Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, and Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane; expanding drone use in public safety; and supporting workforce training programs in high-tech drone careers.

Governor Braun said Indiana’s advanced manufacturing base and defense research capabilities make it “uniquely suited to lead in America’s pursuit of drone dominance.”

U.S. Senator Todd Young, who worked with Braun on the initiative, said drones are becoming vital to both the economy and national security.

The North American drone market is projected to reach $59 billion by 2030.
