Pace Community Action Agency says community support is the reason its Head Start program stayed open during the recent federal government shutdown. While some Head Start programs across the country had to close their doors, Pace says local generosity kept classrooms stable and welcoming for children.
CEO Tai Blythe says the agency felt “uplifted” during a time of real uncertainty, adding that donors, volunteers, parents, staff, and board members helped make sure children still felt safe and supported.
During the shutdown, people donated supplies, gave financial help, and volunteered their time. Pace also recognized several partners — including the Vincennes University Foundation.
Even after the shutdown ended, Pace didn’t receive its Head Start funding until December and still hasn’t regained access to its Energy Assistance funds.
The agency says it’s grateful for the support and remains committed to serving families across the region.
