Indiana’s First Lady is giving early childhood literacy a place of honor in this year’s Statehouse holiday décor. Maureen Braun has unveiled Indiana’s first Dolly Parton Imagination Library Christmas Tree — filled with hand-painted ornaments created by partners in all 92 counties.

Among the decorations is Knox County’s ornament, which features a hand-painted image of the historic Knox County courthouse, the county’s founding year, and symbols representing local agriculture and the Imagination Library program.

The First Lady says every ornament represents a community that believes in the power of reading and the potential of every child. Counties were able to participate at no cost thanks to support from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Indiana and a shipping partnership with UPS and the Indiana Motor Truck Association.

The display includes handmade book ornaments and a tree skirt sewn by the First Lady in tribute to Dolly Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors.”

County partners are invited  to the Statehouse December 17th at 11 a.m. to see their ornaments on display.
