There were no injuries following a police pursuit that began in Knox County and ended in Daviess County Sunday night.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 7:53 p.m. for a 2016 Kia driving erratically on U.S. 41 North, north of Vincennes. The vehicle reportedly ran into a ditch, returned to the roadway, and continued northbound while failing to maintain its lane.
Deputies located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop near U.S. 41 and Ford Road. When the deputy exited their vehicle, the driver fled southbound on U.S. 41. Indiana State Police joined the pursuit, which continued through Vincennes and then east on U.S. 50 toward Washington.
Multiple attempts to deploy stop sticks were unsuccessful. Police say the suspect traveled east in the westbound lanes of U.S. 50 before turning onto Maysville Road and then Old National Highway.
Indiana State Police used a PIT maneuver at 10th Street and Northwest Main Street in Washington, disabling the vehicle.
The driver, identified as 52-year-old Frederick McClellan, was taken into custody and transported to the Knox County Jail. He was booked on charges of resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony; operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony; and refusal to submit to a breath test, a Class A misdemeanor.
McClellan remains in jail on a $5,000 bond. Authorities report no injuries and no property damage other than damage to the suspect’s vehicle.
