State police uncovered a major drug shipment during a traffic stop in Putnam County.
Indiana State Police say a trooper stopped a semi on Interstate 70 eastbound Saturday afternoon near the 41-mile marker for a routine DOT compliance inspection. During the stop, the trooper noticed indicators of criminal activity.
A police K-9 was called to the scene and alerted on the truck, giving troopers probable cause to search it.
Investigators say about 309 pounds of cocaine were found hidden in the sleeper area of the semi.
Two people in the truck were taken into custody without incident and booked into the Putnam County Jail. Both face Level Two felony charges for dealing narcotics, and immigration holds have been placed on them.
Police say the truck was traveling from Joplin, Missouri, to Richmond, Indiana.
