A structure fire damaged a multi-family building in Robinson, Illinois on Saturday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the 700 block of North Cross Street around 3:30 for reports of smoke coming from a residence.

Police arrived first and confirmed a working fire. Officers also confirmed the building was unoccupied at the time due to maintenance work.

Firefighters found smoke coming from several sides of the three-story building. Crews initially attacked the fire on the second floor but had to adjust because parts of the floor had burned through.

Additional crews located fire on the first floor and worked both inside and from the exterior to put it out.

After the fire was extinguished, crews searched the building for remaining hot spots.

No injuries were reported. The fire is believed to have been accidental.

Fire crews cleared the scene shortly before seven Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, an unnamed victim continues to recover from a Pike County house fire.

Pike County Dispatch received the call just after noon last Friday January 2nd for a fire in the 100 block of West Jefferson Street in Winslow.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office arrived first and rescued a man from the home. Patoka Township fire officials say the house was fully involved when they arrived and flames were starting to threaten a neighboring building.

The fire was contained after about two hours. Investigators say a candle may have been knocked over. The cause remains under investigation.

Patoka Township received assistance from the Petersburg and Spurgeon Fire Departments.
