Knox County Commissioners are holding off on decisions about future use of the empty shell building at the county jail.

During a Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners discussed possible long-term plans for the space, including future jail expansion and other county offices. Commissioners stressed that no final plans have been approved.

One option brought up was to put Knox County Central Dispatch in a portion of the space.  Commissioner Kellie Streeter was adamantly against that idea.

Other possibilities discussed include space for the Prosecutor’s Office or Emergency Management, but commissioners say more information is needed before moving forward.

The board plans to wait for updated space estimates from the building designer and review plans with department leaders before taking any action.
