Students gathered on the Vincennes University campus Thursday to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr..
The event included a walk and a series of speeches focused on reflection and progress.
Kayla Garvin, secretary of the Black Legacy Club, said the ceremony provides an opportunity for the campus community to reflect on unity and equality.
“I believe that as a university, because we are all kind of like a family here, it’s a very small university, and if we can’t accept any racial identity, ethnicity or nationality, whether they are Black, Latino, Asian, or Hispanic, then I don’t believe that it is truly equal,” Garvin said.
The walk is held annually, usually a few days after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
Garvin encouraged those who connect with King’s message to take part in future events to continue honoring his impact on families and individuals across the nation.
