WEATHER

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10 tonight through 11 Wednesday morning for much of Indiana. While the Extreme Cold Warning has expired, dangerously cold conditions are expected to return overnight, with wind chills dropping as low as 20 below zero by early Wednesday.

Officials warn that exposed skin can develop frostbite in as little as 30 minutes under these conditions. Anyone who must be outdoors is urged to use caution, dress in layers, and wear a hat and gloves to reduce the risk of frostbite or hypothermia.

KNOX COUNTY TRAVEL STATUS UPDATE 🚧

  • 🟠 Travel Status: ORANGE – WATCH
Effective today at noon, Knox County, Indiana has been moved down to an Orange (Watch) travel status.
This means conditions have improved enough to reduce restrictions; however, hazardous winter conditions remain across the county.
⚠️ Important Reminder to the Public:
Even with the reduced travel status:
❄️ Snow and ice remain on many roadways
🌬️ Wind continues to cause drifting and reduced visibility
🧊 Cold temperatures will keep icy conditions in place
🚗 Road conditions may change quickly for several days
🟠 Orange (Watch) Travel Status means:
Only essential travel is recommended. Residents should continue to use caution, plan ahead, and limit unnecessary trips.
🗣️ Message from EMA Director Streeter:
“As we continue through this extreme winter weather event, I ask everyone to help look after your friends, family, and neighbors—especially the elderly, those with medical needs, and anyone who may be isolated by road conditions or power concerns. A quick check or helping hand can make a real difference.”
Public safety remains the priority.
Emergency services, highway departments, utilities, and public safety agencies will continue monitoring conditions and coordinating response operations countywide.
Please continue to:
✔️ Drive cautiously and slow down
✔️ Allow extra travel time
✔️ Monitor official updates
✔️ Help one another safely when possible
