Vincennes University has opened a new academic facility for its College of Health Sciences and Human Performance.

The Center for Health Sciences and Learning Innovation began hosting classes this semester on the Vincennes campus. The two-story building spans more than seventy-two thousand square feet and replaces the former health sciences center with nearly double the space.

University officials say the facility includes classrooms, laboratories, and student work areas designed for instruction and collaboration, along with simulation spaces intended to reflect clinical and professional settings.

The project cost thirty-three-point-nine million dollars, making it the largest building project in university history. Funding was provided by the State of Indiana. Construction began in February 2024.

A dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday, February 4. University leaders, faculty members, and project representatives attended the event. Students also demonstrated equipment and lab spaces during guided tours.

VU Board of Trustees Chair Mike Sievers said the project represents a significant investment in education.

President Chuck Johnson said the building supports hands-on instruction and modern teaching methods across multiple academic programs.

Interim Dean Jason King said the facility was designed in collaboration with community and health care partners to support health sciences education and workforce training.

“VU graduates serve in hospitals, clinics, care facilities, and other fields throughout Indiana,” King said. “The new center allows us to meet growing workforce demands by educating students in spaces that mirror the environments they will enter after graduation.”

Programs housed in the facility include nursing, health information management, pharmacy technology, physical therapist assistant, surgical technology, funeral service education, and faculty development programs.
