The Vincennes Animal Shelter reported 31 animal adoptions during the month of January, according to Director Leah Reagan.

In her monthly update to the Vincennes Board of Public Works and Safety, Reagan said the adoptions included 12 cats and 19 dogs. During the month, the shelter took in 15 cats and recorded 32 positive outcomes for cats overall. She noted the shelter has recently begun working with a rescue organization, allowing many cats to be transferred out of the facility.

As a result, only two cats were housed at the shelter at the time of the report.

The shelter also took in 32 dogs during January and recorded 23 positive outcomes for dogs. Those outcomes included 19 adoptions, three dogs returned to their owners, and one dog transferred to rescue.

Reagan said the shelter remains full with dogs. The in-house population stood at 33 animals, all but two of them dogs. An additional 10 animals were placed in foster care, bringing the total number of animals under the shelter’s care to 43.

Reagan also shared statistics from 2025. She said the shelter took in more than 1,500 animals during the year. Of those, 537 were adopted, 168 were returned to their owners, and 232 were transferred to rescue organizations. The shelter also completed trap-neuter-return services for 231 cats.
