Daviess, Martin, Pike and Dubois counties are among the rural communities that will receive a share of nearly $180 million in federal transportation funding being distributed by the Indiana Department of Transportation for local infrastructure projects.

INDOT says roughly $130 million of the statewide total is dedicated to the rehabilitation or replacement of bridges that are currently rated in poor condition. Other projects funded in this round include road work, traffic safety improvements and pedestrian facilities such as sidewalks and ADA ramps.

In Daviess County, approximately $2.7 million has been awarded for a bridge project on County Road East 975 North over North Fork Prairie Creek. Two additional safety projects at West Boggs Lake — on the south and north causeways along County Road 1200 East — are funded at about $600,000 and $425,000.

Pike County is set to receive about $2.7 million for a bridge project on County Road 500 West over the Patoka River.

In Dubois County, the City of Huntingburg will receive about $2.3 million for a road project on Veterans Parkway from Chestnut Street to U.S. 231. Dubois County will also receive approximately $2.8 million for safety improvements at various locations.

Martin County is slated to receive about $90,000 for a countywide safety project.

According to INDOT, the funding being announced is for construction. The agency says it will also participate financially in design, engineering and right-of-way acquisition, and that communities must provide at least a 20 percent local funding match and meet federal requirements to receive the money.
