The National Weather Service in Indianapolis is continuing to collect damage reports following Thursday’s severe weather outbreak and plans to send two survey teams to Monroe and Sullivan counties to investigate possible tornado damage. Additional areas could be surveyed as more information becomes available. Preliminary findings may be released as early as Friday evening, with a formal report expected over the weekend. The agency is also asking the public to submit confirmed damage reports by email or through the online NWS storm report system.

The line of storms Thursday evening prompted tornado warnings across parts of Illinois and Indiana. A tornado was confirmed near Robinson in Crawford County, Illinois. A woman was transported to a hospital after being trapped in a mobile home, and more than a dozen buildings in the area were reported damaged.

In Sullivan County, emergency management officials reported downed trees and utility poles in Carlisle and Paxton. Some of the trees fell onto vehicles and homes.

In Bloomington, images posted after the storms showed significant damage to a bank, an auto dealership, and the Monroe County Airport.

At the height of the system, nearly 40 counties were under a tornado watch from early afternoon through late evening.

There was no significant storm activity in Knox, Daviess, Martin, Gibson, Pike or Dubois Counties.
