Multiple CodeRED alerts reported during severe weather

Some Knox County residents may have received multiple CodeRED alerts today during severe weather warnings issued by the National Weather Service.

Knox County Emergency Management Director John Streeter says the alerts were delivered by phone, text message, and email through the county’s CodeRED notification system.

Streeter says Knox and Daviess counties currently operate within the same Crisis24 CodeRED system configuration.

He says that shared setup means alerts tied to warnings in either county can be sent to residents in both areas.

Streeter says the National Weather Service issued several warnings as storm cells moved east across Knox County, and updated warnings with details such as hail size and storm intensity triggered additional alerts.

He says Knox County Emergency Management is working with CodeRED technical staff to separate the two counties into independent systems.

Residents can review or change their alert preferences through the CodeRED account portal.
