Tragic incidents are more reminders to stay away from river flood waters.

Authorities in southern Indiana are dealing with two separate incidents connected to flooded roadways.

In Martin County, Indiana Conservation Officers are searching for a driver whose truck was swept off Spout Springs Road just south of Shoals near the White River. The area is known to flood during high water.

A 911 call was received Tuesday afternoon from the passenger of the vehicle, who was able to climb out of a window and hold onto a nearby vine. Members of the Shoals Volunteer Fire Department and the Martin County Sheriff’s Department launched a boat and rescued that passenger.

Search crews are continuing efforts to locate the driver, identified as 82-year-old James Petty of Fortville. Officers are using surface searches and sonar equipment to locate both the vehicle and Petty.

In a separate incident in Lawrence County, Indiana Conservation Officers say they recovered the bodies of two missing motorists late Tuesday morning in floodwaters along the East Fork of the White River.

Twenty-one-year-old Kasee Allman and 35-year-old Jesse Brock, both of Bedford, were located inside the pickup truck they were last known to be driving.

Authorities say the search covered a large flooded area. Investigators used cellphone data, sonar, divers, and drones to narrow the search to the area near Earl Road and Lawrenceport Road, where the truck was found in about eight feet of water.

Earlier this week, water rescues also took place along State Road 358 near the Knox-Daviess County line and on county roads in northern Daviess County as motorists attempted to drive through fast-moving floodwaters.
