Washington Community Schools will hold a public safety training exercise on Wednesday, May 27, at Washington Junior High and High School.
The drill is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. The district says residents may notice a large presence of police officers, emergency vehicles and first responders at the school during that time.
School officials said the activity is a planned training exercise and is not an emergency.
Washington Community Schools is coordinating with local police, fire and emergency departments, along with other county school districts, to conduct an active shooter drill. The district says the exercise is intended to help emergency personnel practice coordination and response.
No students will be involved in the drill. Participation will be limited to adult volunteers.
