Several landmarks in Indiana are considered in jeopardy.
Indiana Landmarks has released its annual “10 Most Endangered” list, naming sites across the state facing threats like abandonment, development pressure, and lack of funding for repairs.
Two of the properties are close to home. College Hall at the Merom Camp and Retreat Center in Sullivan County made the list as did the Sollman School near Fort Branch in Gibson County.
Indiana Landmarks says the goal of the list is to raise awareness, advocate for preservation, and attract funding to save historic sites before it’s too late.
Since Indiana Landmarks started releasing and Endangered Landmark list 33 years ago, 21 sties have been demolished while 105 have been restored or considered no longer endangered. One of those that has been demolished is Knox County’s Poor Farm that sat near Hart Street in Vincennes.
