Pike County’s effort to clean up abandoned lots and build affordable homes is getting a major financial lift.

According to the Southern Indiana Business Report, two organizations have stepped in with $25,000 each. Arevon made its commitment on August 14, and the Being for Others Foundation awarded its grant three days earlier. Together, the gifts push the Pike County Affordable Housing Program to more than $62,000 in pledged support.

The program, run by the Pike County Economic Development Corporation, clears neglected properties and partners with builders to create safe, affordable homes.

Executive Director Ashley Willis says last year’s $25,000 grant to clean up a Petersburg site showed how much demand there is for the work.

A committee with Pike County Progress Partners is now targeting sites in Winslow, Otwell, Spurgeon, and across the county, with the new funds helping expand those efforts.
