The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center is warning that drought conditions are likely to develop across much of Indiana this fall.
Forecasters say precipitation is projected to be below to well below normal, which could lower pond, river, and reservoir levels.
The dry conditions are also expected to affect seasonal changes. Trees may shed leaves earlier than usual, leading to less vibrant fall colors, and more brown lawns are likely.
Farmers could see crops drying down more quickly, prompting some to begin harvest sooner. Reports show a few Indiana growers have already started shelling corn and cutting early soybeans.
