
A traffic stop in Sullivan County on Tuesday afternoon turned into a police pursuit and ended with the arrest of a Shelburn man.
Authoriteis released details on Thursday saying deputies attempted to pull over an orange Dodge Journey on County Road 600 North for multiple traffic violations. The driver, identified as 38-year-old John H. Taylor of Shelburn, refused to stop and led officers onto U.S. 41 before finally surrendering on Mill Street in Shelburn.
A search of Taylor’s SUV turned up about 30 grams of suspected bath salts, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and packaging materials. Deputies also discovered a loaded handgun in the vehicle. Investigators say Taylor is a serious violent felon and was taken to the Sullivan County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including dealing a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, resisting law enforcement, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
