This week is Indiana Rail Safety Week highlighting the importance of making safe choices around trains and railroad tracks.

Each year, more than 2,100 people across North America are killed or seriously injured by unsafe behavior near tracks.  In Indiana alone, over 100 people are killed or injured in crossing and trespassing incidents annually.

Jessica Feder, Executive Director of Indiana Operation Lifesaver, says activities this week will focus on community education and social media outreach. She says the goal is to empower Hoosiers to make safe decisions and help keep communities safe.

The week includes a series of themes — from Operation Clear Track with law enforcement and first responders, to crossing safety education, transit and professional driver safety, and trespass prevention.
