Governor Mike Braun has announced that applications are open for three vacant seats on the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), an agency that plays a central role in decisions affecting Hoosiers’ electric bills.
The IURC decides whether utilities can recover the costs of projects such as new power plants. Braun says Indiana must balance the need for reliable electricity with keeping rates affordable as the state continues to grow its economy.
“We’re seeking entrepreneurial individuals who are going to think out of the box and have a special attention to rates Hoosiers bear in general,” Braun said.
To fill the vacancies, Braun appointed Secretary of Energy and Natural Resources Suzie Jaworowski, former state representative Dollyne Sherman, and Floyd County business executive Cory Cochran to the IURC nominating committee. They will review applications along with four committee members appointed by the legislature and forward recommendations to the governor.
Applications for the open IURC seats will be accepted until October 14.
