Work is continuing on the Hart Street sidewalk project in Vincennes. Funded through the Redevelopment Commission, the project is being carried out by Myers Contracting, which began construction near McDonald’s and is working north toward 15th Street.
First City News heard from City Engineer John Sprague today who told us the project has required extra time and effort because each driveway along the route must be modified to meet ADA standards. Crews are removing portions of curbs and driveways to create proper flush transitions.
Adjustments are also being made as the work progresses. At RCS, an island is being removed to improve truck access. Near Mirror Lake, crews will remove the existing guardrail and carry out slope stabilization. The process involves removing and replacing soil in layers to create a stronger base before installing a six-foot sidewalk. Riprap will also be placed along the lake to protect the new construction.
City Engineer John Sprague says these changes will improve safety and accessibility while moving the project closer to completion.
