The Vincennes Animal Shelter will participate in a statewide event celebrating Indiana Loves Shelter Pets on Saturday, October 18. Adoption fees will be reduced to $25 to encourage more dogs and cats to find permanent homes.

The event coincides with a proclamation from Governor Braun recognizing the role of adoption in moving Indiana toward becoming a no-kill state. The Vincennes shelter is partnering with Best Friends Animal Society, a national nonprofit that works with thousands of shelters to save the lives of cats and dogs.

“We’re proud to join this statewide effort to shine a light on the importance of pet adoption and the progress Indiana is making toward becoming a no-kill state,” said Leah Reagan, Director of the Vincennes Animal Shelter. “Every adoption brings us one step closer to ensuring that every healthy and treatable pet in our shelter gets the second chance they deserve.”

Best Friends reports that Indiana saved 83 percent of shelter pets in 2024. To reach the no-kill benchmark of 90 percent, another 9,300 dogs and cats will need to be adopted.
