Good Samaritan has announced it will close its hospice program at the end of the year.
Hospital leaders say the decision takes effect December 31st and follows a review of health care trends. Officials say hospice care has shifted more toward organizations dedicated exclusively to end-of-life services.
Good Samaritan will continue offering palliative care, which remains a required part of its cancer accreditation. Current hospice patients will receive letters with details about the transition, and the hospital says it is working with regional providers to ensure continuity of care.
All affected hospice staff will be offered other positions within the hospital.
