The Mid-States Corridor project has narrowed its choices for the proposed highway route. A new report from INDOT recommends two expressway designs — Alternatives 2B and 3B — for additional review.
The two routes were chosen from six options presented at a public meeting in April.
Each plan would create a four-lane divided roadway stretching roughly 23 miles at a cost of more than a billion dollars.
The Mid-States Corridor is a proposed four lane highway running from the Ohio River near Rockport,. bypassing Huntingburg and Jasper and linking with I69 at the 231 interchange in Greene County.
Alternative 2B is projected at about $45.7 million per mile, requiring more property relocations but the lowest overall cost. Alternative 3B, at $47 million per mile, would affect fewer homes and farms, though the price is higher.
Residents can learn more at a public information session October 22nd at Jasper Middle School. Materials are also available at the project office on College Avenue in Jasper, local libraries in Jasper and Huntingburg and the Vincennes INDOT office, and online. The public may submit comments through November 5th.
