CenterPoint Launches New Customer Relief Plan

CenterPoint Energy says it’s taking new steps to ease the financial strain on customers across Southwestern Indiana.

Company officials announced a series of “Community Affordability Actions” designed to keep electric rates near or below the rate of inflation for the next two years. Beginning in November, residential customers should see an average reduction of about three dollars per month. Longer term, CenterPoint estimates customers could save around eighteen dollars monthly through 2027 by avoiding future increases.

Indiana President Mike Roeder says the plan is part of rebuilding public trust and improving communication after concerns over rising bills. The company also plans a winter awareness campaign to promote energy efficiency, including weatherization tips and customer assistance programs.

Meanwhile, some critics say the effort is overdue. Direct Action Against CenterPoint Energy member Christopher Norrick believes the utility could do more by investing in upgrades for low-income households with older, less efficient homes.

CenterPoint says it expects to announce additional affordability measures and outreach projects in the coming months.
