Vincennes University says a leadership transition is underway within its College of Health Sciences and Human Performance.

Dean Michelle Cummins will step down from her administrative role at the end of the semester and return to the classroom as a faculty member in the College of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics.

University officials credit Cummins with expanding academic programs, strengthening partnerships with regional healthcare providers, and helping lead planning for the new 33-point-9 million dollar Center for Health Sciences and Learning Innovation set to open in January.

VU has named Dr. Jason King as Interim Dean. King is an assistant professor of nursing who joined the university earlier this year. He brings more than two decades of healthcare executive leadership experience, including previous roles as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at IU Health Morgan Hospital.

King says he looks forward to building on the College’s existing programs and continuing to support the region’s healthcare workforce needs.

Cummins will help mentor college leadership during the transition.
