Vincennes Police Chief Jon Hillenbrand delivered his regular report to the Board of Public Works and Safety this week, outlining recent activity, staffing updates, and several community initiatives.
Hillenbrand said the department has logged 9,972 calls for service so far this year, including 848 calls since his last report on October 27. During that period, officers made 37 adult arrests, two juvenile arrests, and referred 15 cases to the prosecutor and two to juvenile probation.
Traffic enforcement activity included 156 traffic stops, resulting in two felony cases, eight misdemeanors, 52 infractions, and 125 warnings.
The chief also noted that the department continues to work through three officer vacancies. The current hiring process began August 30 with five applicants, and two remain in the final stages with public safety medical appointments scheduled for December 16 and 17.
Hillenbrand also highlighted the upcoming Shop With a Cop event on December 9, where the department expects to serve about 100 PACE students, spending roughly $250 per child.
He closed his report with a lighthearted update from last week’s Battle of the Badges Salvation Army Kettle Drive. Hillenbrand said the police department once again defeated the fire department—by about $250—adding that he was disappointed the fire chief wasn’t present so he could “rub it in.”
