Indiana House Republicans have unveiled a new redistricting plan as lawmakers begin a fast-track, one-week process to consider changes ahead of the 2026 elections. According to the Indiana Capital Chronicle, the proposal would reshape all nine congressional districts and split Indianapolis into four seats stretching deep into rural counties.
A public hearing is set for Tuesday morning in the House chamber. The bill also includes language sending any legal challenges directly to the Indiana Supreme Court, bypassing county judges.
Resistance remains in the Senate, where several Republicans have voiced concerns about voter backlash to changing the current GOP-drawn map. Redistricting opponents say a court fight is likely if the plan advances.
Threats against some lawmakers have continued in recent days, adding new tension as the General Assembly weighs whether to move forward.
