A Bloomfield man is recovering after being rescued from cold water at a lake in Sullivan County.

Indiana conservation officers say they were called around nine-twenty Wednesdsay morning to a reservoir at Greene-Sullivan State Forest near Dugger.

Investigators say three men were waterfowl hunting when an aluminum boat overturned on the ice-covered lake, throwing two of them into the water about three hundred feet from shore. Those two men were identified as thirty-four-year-old David Thornton of Bloomfield and thirty-five-year-old Coleman Chasteen of Bloomington. A third man, twenty-five-year-old Kyle Britton of Bloomfield, was stranded nearby in a kayak.

Authorities say Chasteen, who was wearing a life jacket, made it to a small island and then passed the life jacket to Thornton, who remained in the water.

Rescue crews pulled Thornton from the lake after about fifty minutes in the water. He was flown to an Indianapolis hospital and was conscious and alert at the time.

Conservation officers used an airboat to transport the remaining two men back to shore.
